Table of Contents

On Saturday 26 September, the only one of the oldest pasta-making families in Gragnano still in business celebrated the bicentenary of its origin with the inauguration of the Cuomo Pasta Museum.

From the founder Antonio to the technological evolution carried on today by Alfonso, Amelia and Anna, Pasta Cuomo's values and artisanal quality are synonymous with the great pasta-making tradition in the world.

This extraordinary story, recovered thanks to a rigorous reconstruction based on original documents, carried out by Prof. Silvio de Majo, Professor Emeritus of Economic History and Industrial Archaeology at the University of Naples Federico II, and researcher Francesca Caiazzo, lives again today in the same places as in the past, namely in Gragnano's historic Via Roma, where pasta has been dried since its inception.

A story that cuts across culture, tourism and food and wine, also thanks to the most innovative digital technologies, with the aim of enhancing the territory, its vocations and roots.
The interactive museum, with a classroom, is a unique format that offers students, tourists and enthusiasts an unforgettable cultural experience.

Realised thanks to Invitalia's Cultura Crea funding, the museum is divided into an itinerary through the Cuomo family's old pasta factory, restored respecting its architectural origins, with lava stone flooring and arched rooms.

Inside, after the showcases with the artefacts and documents of the activity carried out by our ancestors, we move on to the sensorial gallery, where visitors can relive the making of our traditional dishes, even smelling their aroma. The visit ends with a virtual tour thanks to augmented reality VR viewers that will emotionally transport visitors into the past, where the ancestor, Nicolino Cuomo, founder of the pasta factory, will explain in detail how pasta was made in the 1800s, illustrating all the machines in the production process.
